KÖRDÜĞÜM-İlmek, Demirkapı Collective
“Kördüğüm speaks of a compression that becomes more visible the more one attempts to untangle it.”

Demirkapı Collective presents its new exhibition “Kördüğüm-İlmek” at Merdiven Art Space, curated by Yusuf Murat Şen. Working across photography, installation, printmaking, and expanded media, the collective develops a multidisciplinary practice that moves fluidly between material and conceptual registers.
''Kördüğüm'' explores the fractures, repetitions, and entanglements of individual and collective memory. Through diverse techniques and materials, the exhibition engages with emotional, spatial, and conceptual states of compression—structures that be-come increasingly complex as they are unraveled, forming their own internal logic wit-hin apparent chaos.
Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the exhibition creates an immersive field where images intertwine, light merges with shadow, and material boundaries dissolve. The photographic image functions both as an indexical trace and a site of intervention, expanded through spatial and material strategies. Visitors encounter evolving “knots” that resist resolution, inviting a confrontation with their own internal entanglements.
About Demirkapı Collective
Founded by six artists from the Photography Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Demirkapı Collective continues its practice in its Edirnekapı-based studio. Rather than offering a space of comfort, the collective aims to activate the viewer’s conscience and intellect, positioning the artwork as a critical mirror.
Working through both intuitive and constructed approaches, the collective focuses on the personal and societal fractures of contemporary life.
Demirkapı Collective consists of Aksu Günay, Reşit Şimşek, Feyza Nur Veziroğlu, Samet Yılık, Ercan Güleryüz, and Gökhan Esener.
