Seda Gazioğlu

Seda Gazioğlu (b. 1991, Istanbul) is a contemporary artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, video and digital media. She studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and Central Saint Martins in London. In her practice, she often reinterprets antique Anatolian carpets and found objects, creating new relationships between the cultural memory embedded in these materials and contemporary experience.
Her work explores the relationship between the individual and the social and cultural structures that shape them, through concepts of belief, ritual, cognition, gaze and control. Bringing symbols and behavioural patterns embedded in everyday life into dialogue with personal experience, Gazioğlu makes visible the systems that operate beneath the surface and the ways in which they shape the individual.
