Ani Çelik Arevyan

Ani Çelik Arevyan was born in 1961 in Istanbul, where she lives and works. She began her artistic education in 1978, studying painting and darkroom techniques, and started her professional photographic practice in 1985. Early in her career, she worked in the advertising sector, gaining technical and conceptual experience that later informed her artistic approach.
Arevyan defines photography as a process of making rather than merely taking images. Her work prioritizes perception, composition, light, and materiality over documentary representation. Through long-term series, she explores the boundary between the real and the abstract, inviting viewers to reconsider familiar forms and visual experiences.
She held her first solo exhibition in 1993 at the Women’s Library and Information Centre in Istanbul. Since then, she has presented numerous solo and group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, including exhibitions at Istanbul Modern, Galata Rum Okulu, Adas Istanbul, Misi Photo Museum (Bursa), and venues in Vienna and Athens.
Ani Çelik Arevyan has received several awards, including the Kodak Professional European Awards (Turkey First Prize) and the Pamukbank Photography Award. Her works are held in significant collections such as Istanbul Modern and the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF).
