ALİCAN LEBLEBİCİ

Alican Leblebici, known for his hyper-realistic portraits and self-portraits, was born in Adıyaman in 1991. He graduated from Marmara University’s Painting Teaching Department in 2013 and completed his master’s degree at the same university. While Leblebici is recognized for his hyper-realistic portraits and self-portraits, he also works across various disciplines including photography, installation, video, and sculpture.

In his early works, he became prominent with his portraits and self-portraits, explaining that his inclination toward creating self-portraits stemmed from his desire to explore traces of his own identity. Currently, his practice investigates the concept of power through art, the body, and politics. He examines power and powerlessness within an aesthetic of disobedience, focusing on how the powerful manifest their strength and how challengers express rebellion and dissent.

The artist describes his sources of inspiration as follows: “I am open to every visual I encounter. I try to keep my receptors active and record everything I see. Stories and people around me are also among my main sources of inspiration.”

Leblebici has held solo exhibitions at galleries such as Mixerarts and Pilot, and participated in group shows at Mixer, Pilevneli, and P&G Gallery. He continues his practice in Istanbul.
