TUNCA graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts.
Since the early 2000s, the artist has developed a multifaceted practice—spanning canvas, sculpture, installation, video, and performance—through which he constructs an image world shaped by historical memory, cultural identity, and political phenomena. Taking as his concern the surpassing of ideological constructs and the glorification of history around social and political events, TUNCA moves through the vast strata of “memory,” from official histories to individual stories, and frames the notion of witnessing within his artistic practice beyond documentary modes and indexicality.
In 2015, in a performance titled Yüzen Gecekondu (Floating Gecekondu), staged parallel to the 9th Istanbul Biennial, the artist and Guido Casaretto spent a week inside a floating shanty they built on the Golden Horn and documented the process. TUNCA has taken part in exhibitions at the 4th International Çanakkale Biennial, CerModern, santralistanbul, Kuad Gallery, Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art, Siemens Art Gallery, and Kasa Gallery, among others. His solo exhibitions include Little Boy, SANATORIUM, Istanbul (2010), and Kalıntı (Remnant), Pi Artworks, Istanbul (2012). Most recently, for his 2014 solo exhibition Desire at artON Istanbul, he undertook professional culinary training and realized a series of performances interrelating gastronomy, history, and politics.
