Sarkis Zabunyan (known as Sarkis, b. 1938, Istanbul) is a Paris‑based conceptual artist. Trained in interior architecture and painting at Mimar Sinan, he moved to Paris in 1964 and gained early recognition in Harald Szeemann’s landmark exhibition Live in Your Head: When Attitudes Become Form (1969). He represented Turkey with Respiro at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015, curated by Defne Ayas). Major milestones include the “Hôtel Sarkis” retrospective at MAMCO, Geneva (2011) and the French Ministry of Culture’s Grand Prix National de Sculpture (1991). Working across installation, neon, video, photography, and drawing, he explores memory, time, and identity.
