NERİMAN POLAT

Neriman Polat (1968, Istanbul) focuses on socio-political issues in her work, addressing phenomena such as gender, public space, urban transformation, and forms of power through a feminist perspective and critical language. In her practice, which engages with personal and collective memory, she creates works incorporating photography, video, installation, text, and more recently, interventions on ready-made textile materials.
Between 2000 and 2009, she was a member of the Hafriyat group, exhibiting her works in numerous shows with the collective. Among the exhibitions she has participated in are the 6th Istanbul Biennial Passion and the Wave (1999), curated by Paolo Colombo, and In Limbo at the Turkey Pavilion of the 50th Venice Biennale (2003), curated by Beral Madra.
Her recent solo exhibitions include Çatısız (Zilberman Gallery, 2023), Mührü Kırmak (Depo, Istanbul, 2019), Şefkatsiz(Merdiven Art Space, Istanbul, 2018), and Eşik (Disambigua Art Space, Viterbo, Italy, 2015). Recent group exhibitions include Vizyon, Misyon, Değerler (Zilberman Gallery, 2023), Olumlayan Dünya (Summart, Istanbul, 2021), Hassas Müdahale (Kıraathane Literature House, Istanbul, 2020), Çiçek Yarası (two-person show with Nurcan Gündoğan, Kasa Gallery, Istanbul, 2019), and İlk Raunt (Galata Greek School, Istanbul, 2018).
