Berka Beste Kopuz was born on October 22, 1995.
She completed her undergraduate education in 2017 at the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University.
The artist produces in a multidisciplinary style and focuses on the layered relationship established with the place by working on urban history, the memory of space, and archival studies.
In her research processes, which mostly start from urban history and archival documents, she incorporates the importance of the memory of space into her practice. Believing that one of the most important characteristics of cities is that they cannot be completely destroyed and always bear traces of their past, the artist seeks these traces in the city and questions the re-existence of the old with the new.
The artist pays attention to making her works interactive, aiming to involve the audience in the center of her works. She strives to make this relationship visible through the interactive installations specific to the environments she creates.
Her works have been exhibited in both domestic and international platforms such as Mamut Art Project 2017, BASE 2017, CAPTCHA Design Festival, Mixer, Space Debris, and Şehre BAK. In November 2019, she opened her first solo exhibition titled "Kazıklıköy" at Versus Art Project.
In 2020, she was included in the Istanbul Architecture and Urban Studies Academy, and in 2022, she participated in the Istanbul Biennial Work and Research Program.
In addition to her personal work, the artist also collaborates with Arek Qadrra. The duo's first duo-solo exhibition titled “Batarken Güneş Ardından Tepelerin” will be opened at Kasa Gallery in 2024.
Currently, she is preparing for her solo exhibition titled "Toprak Biriktirir Geçmişi II" which will open in November 2024 at Merdiven Art Space.
She currently lives in Istanbul and continues her work in her studio.
